On Friday, Oct. 5, Mill Valley was one of the eight schools across the state to host an annual STUCO Regional Conference. This was Mill Valley’s first time hosting the conference.
It was a challenge for Mill Valleys STUCO because just a few weeks before hosting this conference, members were busy preparing for homecoming. Senior student body secretary Gracie Kurzejeski shared that although this was large workload their organization allowed them to pull it off.
“It was a stressful time for all of STUCO but we got it all planned and it turned out amazing,” Kurzejeski said.
Before the conference, STUCO had a lot of preparation and planning to do. Sophomore representative Kenna Long helped set up for the event.
“Preparing for the conference we had to decide things like where everyone would go before and after the guest speaker and what fun activities we could do during downtime to get to know the other school’s STUCO members,” Long said.
During the conference the STUCO members had many responsibilities. Kurzejeski had balance all of these responsibilities.
“We had multiple jobs for the conference, we had people getting registration ready, people planning the food and people planning decorations, A lot goes into planning events like this that a lot of people never notice, but when we split these jobs up among the STUCO it is very helpful and goes a lot smoother,” Kurzekeski said.
After the conference, STUCO concluded the day by cleaning up the Performing Arts Center and gathering for lunch to discuss members experience hosting the conference.
Members discussed why they would love to host another conference. Sophomore representative, Avery Huber, expressed interest in hosting the regional conference again.
“I had so much fun and I liked being able to stay at my school instead of going to a school I probably haven’t been to before. It was more comfortable at Mill Valley and I felt I could be myself more here,” Huber said
In the end, although the conference required a lot of work, it was empowering to see all the STUCO students from various schools united at Mill Valley. Long appreciated how it showcased the school.
“It was cool to see everyone else’s STUCO all together and seeing how their STUCO was structured and especially cool that we were able to represent Mill Valley and be at our school,” Long said.
