Assistant principal Dr. Heath Wilson will leave Mill Valley at the end of the school year to take on a new role as assistant principal and athletic director at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School next year.
Wilson joined Mill Valley at the beginning of this school year; however, he had always wanted to become an athletic director.
“[The position] was a good opportunity for me to be able to get into the athletic director space,” Wilson said. “Sports is a big part of my background and a big part of my passion for entering education, and so to be able to have that same impact on coaches and student athletes is something I’ve always wanted to do.”
According to Wilson, he will miss the entire community at Mill Valley.
“The kids here are so great and the teachers as well,” Wilson said. “The entire community, to be honest with you, is just a community that cares so much about young people’s future and their education and so just that investment of the community, students and staff.”
Reflecting on Wilson’s impact, senior Carter Coup believes his constant presence at events showed his dedication to the school community.
“He was very involved in our school sports and activities,” Coup said. “I saw him at a lot of events like Relay for Life, sports games and any type of event. The school will miss his presence.”
Wilson hopes the students continue the tradition of excellence at Mill Valley.
“Mill Valley is one of the best schools in the state of Kansas, and I would just say to continue to reach for the stars and trust the staff that’s here and their guidance,” Wilson said. “Continue to achieve great things like it’s always been done here at Mill Valley.”
