The senior class of 2015 was recognized for the 6.3 million dollars it earned in scholarships at the annual Senior Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 15.

Senior Halie Breninger was awarded with the Mill Valley Booster Club Scholarship, Olathe Health System Health Career Scholarship and recognized for scholarships awarded from Kansas State University and the University of Kansas. Breninger did not expect to receive all of these awards.

“I was really surprised [to win] both the Booster Club and Olathe Heath Care Scholarship because I wasn’t expecting to be picked out of so many applicants,” Breninger said.

Senior Sydney Rebeck was also awarded with the Mill Valley Booster Club Scholarship, along with the J. Trenton Hughes Scholarship and recognized for the scholarship awarded from KU. Rebeck enjoys seeing the success of her fellow classmates along with her own.

“It was an honor to be awarded these,” Rebeck said. “It’s cool to see how smart everyone else is, like seeing [senior] Margo [Wieschhaus] win [the National Merit Scholarship]. I like to see how my fellow classmates are going to be successful.”

Breninger agreed as she also enjoyed hearing about the success of her classmates.

“The significance of the ceremony is to recognize students for their accomplishments,” Breninger said. “I liked to hear what scholarships everyone got.”
