Back To School Night Kicks Off School Year

Back To School Night Kicks Off School Year

While most students rested at home after an exciting first day of school, their parents spent the evening roaming the halls Thursday, Aug. 23, going through a crash course of what students do every day.

A select group of band members preceded the evening’s events with several songs, including its rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black” and Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train”.

Principal Tobie Waldeck gave a short speech to begin the night, reminiscing on the first speech he gave at the school while putting parents’ minds at ease, especially those of freshmen.

“These kids adjust a lot quicker than the parents,” Waldeck said. “I’ve seen a lot of nervous faces, but also a lot of happy faces.”

School Resource Officer Mo Loridon, a new staff member for the 2012-2013 school year, stood at his post in the foyer, guiding and meeting parents throughout the evening. Loridon took advantage of the event to get some face time in the school community.

“[I helped] so if [parents] have to call me, they know what I look like,” Loridon said.

Loridon also expressed his excitement to become known by the students and “developing a positive relationship with them.”
