Band receives a two ranking at Emporia State University Marching Competition
Sophomore color guard member Sherri McLeod shares her enjoyment of the competition
The marching band received a two for its second competition of the year at the Emporia State University Marching Competition on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The band was one of 16 other bands that went to the competition.
“We performed our halftime show for the judges.” Band director Debra Steiner said. “[The songs include] ‘Ring of Fire’, ‘Dead or Alive’, and ‘William Tell Overture.'”
Sophomore color guard member Sherry McLeod said the band practiced hard for the competition.
“It felt like we worked on [the songs] forever,” McLeod said.
Steiner chose the music that the band would perform at the competition.
“I try to match the strengths of the group and enhance them, as well as give them a challenge,” Steiner said.
McLeod enjoyed competing with her friends in the band.
“I had lots of fun because I have lots of friends in band,” McLeod said. “It’s like a big family and team. Steiner is probably the best person in the world.”
This is sophomore Abbie Manhart's first year on the yearbook staff. She is a writer and photographer. She also enjoys participating in choir and the musical.
