Blog: Extensions: yes or no?

After recently cutting off eight inches of my hair, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t suffering from post-haircut depression. I’ve noticed tons of girls getting extensions put in and I’m genuinely curious: are extensions worth it? I checked around online and depending on whether they’re made of synthetic fiber or human hair, extensions can cost anywhere from $50 to $200.

Synthetic, glue-in hair extensions are much cheaper, with some running as little as fifty dollars. Due to their sensitivity to heat, they have very limited styling options: no straightening, curling or blow drying. Also, the glue used to attach them can damage your real hair.

Weave-in extensions made of human hair look much more realistic since they’re made of actual hair and can be treated as so. The fact that they’re weaved in to your real hair makes them last for months. However, they are also much more expensive, high maintenance, and their application can take up to four hours.

While I’d much rather have long hair now as opposed to waiting six months for my natural hair to grow out, I don’t think I have the time, money or patience for extensions. What do you think, ladies? Is long hair worth hundreds of dollars to you?
