Blog: Jack Antonoff, you’ve done it again
I am in love with the band fun. “Aim and Ignite” and “Some Nights” are two of my favorite albums. They’re not only good musicians though; they’re also involved in many philanthropic projects. Logically, when I heard Jack Antonoff (guitarist, drummer and backup vocalist for the group) had a new solo project called Bleachers, I couldn’t resist checking it out. And I did not regret it one bit.
Although Bleachers has only released one song thus far, it is promising. Entitled “I Wanna Get Better,” it features Antonoff not only playing guitar, but also singing. His deep, hollow voice provides a nice contrast to his previous work with fun. The song itself has an overall alternative rock sound, but could also make a nice pop hit. Featuring everything from banging keyboards to a killer guitar solo, it definitely goes above and beyond the expectations set for Antonoff.
It’s also worthwhile to mention that Bleachers has the support of many other musicians, including Taylor Swift, Sara Bareilles and Hayley Williams of Paramore. I can’t wait to see what other surprises Antonoff has in store as a part of both Bleachers and fun. Bleachers’ debut album is due to be released this spring, and if it bears any similarity to “I Wanna Get Better,” I may have to buy myself a copy.
