Blog: "Life-Size" sequel in the works

Fans of the 2000 Disney flick “Life-Size“, starring Tyra Banks and Lindsay Lohan, got a little, ahem, life-sized treat earlier this week. It’s a short tweet from Banks with an exciting announcement (regarding something much more valuable than how to smize, might I add).

If you remember these cheesy but somewhat-inspirational song lyrics, you know what the famous supermodel turned actress, who will be reprising her role of Eve, is talking about. A “Life-Size” sequel is in the works.

If you live under a rock and don’t know anything about this cheesy, guilty-pleasure movie, it’s essentially about a young girl named Casey (Lohan) who accidentally brings a doll, Eve, to life while attempting to bring her mother back from the dead.

I’m not going to lie; I loved this movie as a kid (and I actually just watched it not too long ago). However, as excited as I am to see it for this reason, I can’t say I’m aboard this sequel train. It’s a fun movie with an entertaining storyline, which I’m sure many are ecstatic to see be continued, but let’s be real. The only reason a movie lands a sequel to begin with is because it’s so successful; there’s no way a second “Life-Size” can live up to the original, only setting this film up for disaster.

But the thing that’ll really make the movie a flop is the lack of the once adored Lohan, who acted in the first film when she was fourteen. While Lohan, now 26, is an absolute trainwreck, she was once quite a very talented actress. Nothing has been said about Lohan returning for the sequel, but I’m sure the odds lean toward no. Unless Eve wants to come back to life again to steer Casey away from the alcohol, drugs and wreckless behavior, I can’t see Lohan make an appearance in the film. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’ll be easy to find a young person to play the starring role that had the talent and likability that LiLo once had.

Another thing that makes me so worried for this sequel is the fact that a movie’s sequel or sequels are, in most cases, horrible. Just look at “Mean Girls“, the easily iconic 2008 teen comedy, which, coincidentally, Lohan starred in. A sequel was made last year, and I don’t even want to talk about that horrible mess of a movie that completely butchered one of my favorites.

The only hope I have for this sequel is that Banks is executive-producing, as she did for the first one, and is also returning to star in the film. Hopefully this will keep the sequel feeling consistent with the first, and bring to it the same humor and level of entertainment as well.

Although I can’t say how this movie, which is very early on in the production stages and has no set release date, will go down, I can predict one thing: Lindsay Lohan will, in fact, get into another hit-and-run or bar fight within the next month or two.

Are you excited for the "Life-Size" sequel?
