Blog: My favorite Christmas music
December is my favorite time of year. Why? I love Christmas and, of course, the music that goes with it. I’ve been listening to Christmas music since early November and I just can’t get enough of it. Here are a few of my favorites.
“Sleigh Ride” by fun.: fun. is one of my favorite bands. Their indie pop sound lends well to this older Christmas song, and they definitely put their own spin on it. Nate Ruess’s vocal range is also perfect for the track.
“Christmas Lights” by Coldplay: While not everyone would consider this to be a Christmas song, it still deserves mention on this list. Many different sides of Coldplay are shown on this song, which is accompanied by tempo changes and great lyrics. It’s so good that I listen to it year round.
“Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra: I’m not too big into instrumental music, but this song is just downright epic. From the string sections to the guitar solos, everything on the track is executed very well. Also, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is such a big player in Christmas music that I had to include at least one of their songs.
“His Favorite Christmas Story” by Capital Lights: This pop punk Christmas tune has some of the best lyrics ever. Telling the story of a travelling man who ends up meeting the girl he danced with many Christmas Eves ago on his deathbed, this track definitely evokes emotion. Also, the vocals and instrumentation of the song are spot on and tell the story quite well.
“Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid: This would have to be my favorite Christmas song of all time. The message of the song is amazing, and emulates the giving spirit of Christmastime. Also, many great singers are included on the track, such as Bono of U2, Boy George of Culture Club and Sting of The Police. All in all, the song inspires through its meaningful lyrics, spot-on vocals and good backing instruments.
