Blog: StuCo reaches out to the community

This is the time of the year when StuCo hosts events that help other people in need. I always think these are the most rewarding events because we have reached to people outside of our own school.

Every year StuCo hosts two blood drives. Our first one is taking place on Thursday, Oct. 25. Right now StuCo members are getting students and faculty to sign up so we can meet our donation quota of 91 units. You can contact any StuCo member to sign up.

StuCo is also participating in the trunk-or-treat on Saturday, Oct 27 from 1 p.m-4 p.m in Mill Valley parking lot.  NHS is hosting this so it gives children in the community a safer way to trick-or-treat.

Along with the blood drive and trunk-or-treat, we are also conducting a food drive which will not only get our school involved but the entire community. We are collecting canned goods from the surrounding neighborhoods on Tuesday, Oct. 30. We hope to make the food drive a class competition so we can have more students participate.

I always feel like school participation is high whenever there is something going on that affects our school, but once we try to fundraise for another cause the number of participants goes down. I think there should be just as many people donating cans as there were at the Homecoming game. This is our chance to show the community that our school is a good place to be, and we care about the well-being of others.

Check-in a few weeks and see how our blood drive went.
