I just finished reading Bossypants by Tina Fey for the third time since I bought it in January. Now, three times for one book in a four month period sounds a little ridiculous. And it probably is, to be honest. But Bossypants might be the funniest book I have ever read and possibly the funniest book ever written, so it was well worth the time and repetition.
Of course any book by comedy star Tina Fey was sure to be funny. As a huge fan of her hit show 30 Rock and her days on Saturday Night Live, I was stoked when I found out she wrote a book. I was obviously off my game since I found out about the book about seven months after its publication, but as the cliché goes, “better late than never.”
The entire book had me giggling uncontrollably, which did make it slightly uncomfortable to read in public situations. My two favorite parts of the book are when she goes into a deep description of her honeymoon on a cruise ship gone wrong with her overly terrified of travel husband and, of course, her description of the early years of 30 Rock. The prior was a possibly deadly situation that takes a true comedian to convey the humor that is often lost in terror.
For anyone that is already a fan of Tina Fey and her work, Bossypants will be a lovely and hilarious look into all the circumstances that made Fey the woman she is today. For people that are less familiar with her work, Bossypants will make them want to watch 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live and clips of her talk show interviews on YouTube just to watch her humor on screen.
