Bowling recap of this week
With a bowling meet on Monday and the Bowl-a-thon for special olympics on Thursday, the bowlers had a busy week
The bowling team had its first home meet on Monday, Jan. 13 at Park Lanes. Three of the 12 bowlers placed in the top five, and the boys team placed first while the girls team placed third.
The stats from the meet are as follows:
Junior Cole Gray: 2nd
Senior Cassie Widmer: 2nd
Sophomore Cole Griggs: 5th
Head coach Rick Pollard says he is impressed with the team so far.
“We have done pretty well this year. It’s a new year with new dynamics, but we are close to where we started last year and last year was very successful,” Pollard said. “We have a lot of individuals who have stood out so far.”
Pollard also discussed his expectations for the rest of the year
“My biggest hope is that everyone just improves daily,” Pollard said. “Of course we want to push towards state, but since the program is still young we really want to focus on building up the program and improving every chance we get.”
In addition to the meet on Monday, they all participated in a Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser on Thursday, Jan. 17.
The team raised money for the local special olympics bowling team, Shawnee Storm.
Sophomore Merrick Vinke was proud of the team.
“We all worked hard, and it went really good,” Vinke said.
Each bowler got sponsors to either give them a one time donation or an amount of money for each pin. One third of the money raised went to the Shawnee Storm team.
Each bowler bowled three games. At the end of all the games, the team presented a check for $500 to the Shawnee Storm.
