Bowling team defends league title
Senior Cassie Widmer got first individually with a score of 583
The boys and girls varsity bowling team took home the KVL championship at the Ranch Bowl in Kansas City, KS on Monday, Feb. 17, competing against Lansing, Turner and Piper. Senior Cassie Widmer placed first with a score of 583. The boys team scored 2,342, and the girls team beat the school record with a score of 1,971.
Junior Cody Deas said the desire to defend their title added a different level of pressure competing at league, but after struggling in the first game, the boys quickly brushed it off and came back strong.
“Our first game was not very good at all, but our second was fantastic so it all evened out,” Deas said.
“[The team] reacted well to the first game not going too well, which helped us come back.”
Widmer said hard work helped her get over her nervousness.
“I feel like I’ve been working really hard over the year so I think I deserve [first place],” Widmer said. “I was really nervous because the meet before this I did very poor.”
The team was thrilled with their wins as, they had a lot to celebrate including two trophies and three individuals placed.
“I think the meet went better than expected,” Deas said. “I’m really happy we won. I’m actually surprised they guys won but the girls deserved the win.”
