The bowling team placed first in its first ever tournament on Monday, Jan. 9, at Park Lanes in Shawnee.
The varsity and junior varsity boys teams bowled against Maranatha Academy and F.L. Schlagle High School. The girls varsity and junior varsity teams bowled against Maranatha, Schlagle, Blue Valley High School and Blue Valley West High School.
Varsity boys had a team score of 2,149. Series scores are listed as follows: senior Ryan Hannah, 463, senior Tyler Moore, 458, senior Robbie Weber, 440, junior LJ Hatch, 578, freshman Cole Gray, 476, and freshman Sloan June, 547.
Varisty girls had a team score of 1,818. Series scores are listed as follows: senior Madison Bohling, 438, senior Olivia Cain, 347, senior Madeline Webb, 279, senior Dakotah Widmer, 506, sophomore Cassie Widmer, 506, and freshman Maridee Weber, 341.
Webb is pleased with the tournament’s results.
“It was our first meet ever. I’m really happy with the outcome, considering that we’ve never competed as a team before,” Webb said.
Cassie Widmer said she was anxious about the first meet.
“I was nervous since it was the first tournamet in Mill Valley history,” Cassie said. “I didn’t want [the team] to come back without a win and have people think that bowling is a joke. It’s actually pretty legit.”
The bowling teams also competed on Thursday, Jan. 12, against Atchison High School and De Soto High School at Ranch Bowl in Kansas City, Kansas. Once again, all four teams took first place in their division.
The varsity boys had a team score of 2,178 and the varsity girls had a team score of 1,873.
Next week, the teams will travel to Topeka on Tuesday, Jan. 17 to battle Topeka High School. They will also bowl at home at Ranch Bowl on Wednesday, Jan. 18 against DHS. Both tournaments will begin at 3:30 p.m.
