To kick off the basketball season, the boys and girls basketball programs held the Mill Valley Late Night Friday, Dec. 6. The night consisted of student competitions, team introductions and scrimmages for the entire program.
The night began with freshmen, sophomore and JV scrimmages and ended with JV/Varsity scrimmages for both the boys and girls teams.
According to senior Josie Benson, the scrimmages were beneficial for both teams in preparation for the upcoming season.
“I think [the night] went really well, and both teams gained a lot from it,” Benson said. “I think we need to scrimmage more in practice so we can prepare ourselves.”
The night also got students involved through competitions like the three-point contest. Boys basketball head coach Kurt Bangle enjoyed the engaging environment of the night.
“My favorite thing was being able to get the guys and the girls teams together, along with cheer and dance. Everybody that is going to make our game atmosphere really awesome together, and of course, being able to add students and fans. It was nice to see everybody in the gym.”
For senior Carter Kaifes, getting the opportunity to get back on the court and get ready for the season was great.
“I liked getting ready to play with the guys, getting ready for the season, and just getting on the court,” Kaifes said. “Going into my last year, I look forward to getting back to state, and just playing with the guys.”
Bangle is excited for the upcoming season and for the chance to compete.
“I’m excited for another opportunity to get these guys back together on the floor, they’ve grown up together and played a lot of basketball,” Bangle said. “They’re good players, so it’s just really fun to get a chance to get them out there and compete and put them in front of everybody.”
