The boys basketball team fell to the Basehor- Linwood High School Bobcats, 65-51 on Friday, Jan. 13.The loss concluded the team’s four game winning streak and set them to a season record of 5-3 and 3-2 in Kaw Valley League play.
“It was good that we got off to a fast start in the season. We will always have to overcome adversity, but our team is strong enough to be at the top of the league,” sophomore guard Nick Friesner said.
The Jaguars trailed the Bobcats throughout the game. The only quarter they led in scoring was the fourth, 14-13, however it was too late by then with Basehor outscoring the Jags 52-37 in the first three quarters. The team only shot 18-47 from the floor (38 percent) and 3-11 from the three point line (27 percent). One positive though was again the team’s free throw shooting. The team went 12-13 from the line (92 percent) only missing one free throw.
Sophomore guard Drew Boatwright led the Jags in scoring and steals with 17 points and three steals, coming off the bench.
“Most of the time we executed well, but crucial mistakes lost us the game.” said Boatwright.
The team heads off Thursday, Jan. 19 to Coffeyville Community College to play in the tournament lasting from Wednesday, Jan. 18- Saturday, Jan. 21. Be sure to wish all the players luck in the upcoming tournament.
