Boys soccer wins home game to improve to 5-0 in league
The boys soccer team defeated Lansing 5-0 at home on Thursday, Oct. 3 to improve its record to 7-1-2 overall and 5-0 in league play.
The team maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the first half, which included a goal by senior forward Davis Cantwell and a goal off a penalty kick by senior center midfielder Daniel Gray.
Cantwell said that the first half momentum helped the team remain focused.
“We came out really strong at the beginning,” Cantwell said. “We’ve been a second-half team all year, so it was nice to finally get a good start.”
In the second half, senior attacking center midfielder Jack Lopez scored twice alongside senior forward Colton Chapman who contributed one goal.
Reflecting on the team’s play overall, junior defensive center midfielder Teddy Gillespie said he thought the team had a high number of shot attempts on the night.
“I think we need to make more of [our shot attempts] because we probably missed 70% of them,” Gillespie said.
The team will play on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Piper to secure the league title.
