Boys soccer defeats Turner, 4-1
Varsity team beats Turner High School at home on Thursday, Sept. 12.
After maintaining control of the ball for the majority of the game, the boys soccer team defeated Turner High School, 4-1, on Thursday, Sept. 12, making their record3-1.
Numerous unsuccessful first-half shot attempts were validated by freshman forward Sam Lopez’s goal with 6:40 left to go on in the half.
The team carried the energy over into the second half, allowing senior captain Daniel Gray to score within the first 15 seconds of play.
According to senior attacking center midfielder Jack Lopez, starting out the second half with an early goal encouraged the team.
“We weren’t too happy with the first half because we didn’t score as many goals as we should have,” Jack Lopez said. “So to come out and score a goal early in the second half gave us some good momentum to finish out the game.”
The rest of the half followed with one goal by Turner, a goal by senior outside midfielder Colton Chapman and a second goal by Gray.
Head Coach Arlan Vomhof said he sees areas for improvement but was overall satisfied with the win.
“We weren’t moving the ball like I wanted to and we kind of lost our flow,” Vomhof said. “But it’s early in the season. We got a couple goals in and had only one mistake. It was a confidence booster, a good win.”
