Senior night for the boys soccer team led to an exciting 7-2 victory against Shawnee Mission North Thursday, Oct. 3 at Mill Valley High School.
With the victory still on his mind, senior Carter Coup reflects on how the team performed to achieve their win.
“Defensively we shouldn’t have let up two goals, but that’s not just on our defense it’s on the entire team,” Coup said. “But offensively, we just dominated. We just need to keep it up for next week.”
Senior Nic Schrag describes how the team plans to up their game for the rest of the season.
“This year we’re trying to be more defense-based,” Schrag said. “Last year we were very focused on offense so we’re trying to work on our defensive side.”
The game was a significant win for the team after a rough start to the season. Coup shares his thoughts on what the future might hold for boys’ soccer.
“The rest of the season will be hard, but I think we can handle it,” Coup said. “We could go pretty far in the playoffs if we come together as a team.
Schrag bases the outcome of the game on their game plan.
“We were working on the stuff we practiced,” Schrag said. “We focused on our defensive shape and how we attack and press, and that went well.”
Soccer has been a big part of seniors’ lives for many years. As senior night acted as a time to reflect on the past, Coup reveals soccer’s impact on him.
“Most of my friends have come from the soccer team and I’ve made a really good connection with many of the coaches,” Coup said. “It’s taught me a lot of good life lessons too.”
In the sentimental moment, Schrag shares what he will miss most about high school soccer.
“I will miss the student section and all of my teammates,” Schrag said. “It’s going to suck whenever it’s all over.
