Boys soccer kicked off the season with a win against the Gardner-Edgerton Blazers on Friday, Aug. 25.

According to boys soccer coach Arlan Vomhof, this first game sets a good precedent for the rest of the season.

“It’s good to start the season with a win,” Vomhof said. “We got twelve new guys on varsity that came up from [junior varsity.] We only have four players that were on varsity last year, so it was nice to come out and play well in the second half and see some things sort of come together.”

Senior Bradley Teasley believes the team wasn’t as focused as it could’ve been in the first half, but everyone pulled through in the second half.

“We just really needed to calm down and make our passes with more focus,” Teasley said. “We played hard, and after a while we just found our rhythm and played well.”

Vomhof agrees the team improved in the second half and says they will be working on passing rather than dribbling for the next game.

“Once we started passing the ball instead of dribbling so much, our team did a lot better,” Vomhof said.

Despite any shortcomings the team may have had, Teasley thinks the team will continue to develop throughout the season.

“Coming into the season with a win really gives us a confidence boost, and we can just move on from there,” Teasley said.
