The boys swim team took third place in its meet at Blue Valley West on Thursday, Jan. 28.

Senior Logan Schmidt competed in the medley relay, 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke, and was happy with how he swam.

“I thought I did pretty well in each event. I dropped time in my 50 free, so that was good,” Schmidt said. “I’ve been dropping time in different things lately, so I’m hoping to keep that up in meets to come.”

The team competed only two days before at Blue Valley Southwest, but according to senior Jeremiah Kemper, the quick turnaround did not negatively affect the team’s performance.

“I felt ready. Having back-to-back meets is pretty hard, it always takes it out of you, but you just have to be in the right mindset and know that you’re ready to do it, then give it your all,” Kemper said.

The team as a whole always tries to keep improving, despite the fact that it’s not as easy to get faster, Kemper said.

“I kept up my normal pace. At this point in the season it’s kind of hard to cut time, but we keep working really hard,” Kemper said.

Schmidt also keeps working toward his personal goals based on the most recent meets.

“I always want to swim faster. Also, I’m trying to get my times generally more consistent and drop the gap in time,” Schmidt said.

With state coming up soon, Kemper is looking forward to competing with his team and hopes to keep improving.

“I’m really excited for state. A lot of us have already qualified and we’re going to have a lot of people there,” Kemper said. “I think we have a really good shot at placing and just doing really well. Everyone’s really excited to compete for the team.”

The next meet will be Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Bonner Springs.
