The boys swim team took ninth at the Blue Valley Southwest Invitational Jan. 23.

For many of the swimmers, the main goal of the meet was to achieve times that were similar to where they left off at the end of last season. For senior Dan Thomas, making it to state would be nice accomplishment, but it’s not the main priority.

“This year has kind of been a plateau for me just because I think I peaked at junior year,” Thomas said. “So, this year it’s kind of just been me trying to overcome that plateau that I’ve reached.”

According to junior Garrison Fangman, since there are so many returning members, the main focus of the season has been trying to pick up from where the team left off at state last year.

“Most of us got to that point pretty quickly, but we’re still getting there for some of us, like myself, trying to get back to where I was at state last year,” Fangman said.

After being out of the season for a while due to sickness, Fangman was still able to place second in the 100 yard butterfly.

“It’s been kind of rough getting back into shape for swimming,” Fangman said. “I’m not that far behind from where I left off almost a month ago, so that’s good.”

Freshman Chris Sprenger also placed second in the 200 yard individual medley, along with sixth in the 100 yard freestyle. Over the season, Sprenger has also bonded well with the team.

“They push me to do my best, and they’re all pretty cool people, and I enjoy hanging out with them,” Sprenger said. “Other than that, I’m right on my times, which is really good.”

The 4×50 yard medley relay team consisting of senior Will Dervin, senior Adam Grey, Fangman, and Sprenger finished seventh overall as well.

As a goal, Fangman would like to see the 4×50 yard medley relay team continue to improve on time each meet.

“I think we’ve gotten a new record for pretty much each relay we’ve had so I’d like to keep that going,” Fangman said.

The next swim meet will be at Blue Valley Southwest once again for a duel against the school on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m.
