Cliche romantic comedy with a surprising twist

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of renting Crazy, Stupid, Love. The movie was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday, Nov. 1, which was fantastic news for me since I didn’t have the opportunity to see it in theaters over the summer.

The movie stars Steve Carell as Cal Weaver, a man who learns that his wife, Emily Weaver played by Julianne Moore, is having an affair with a co-worker. The movie follows Cal’s encounters with a young man, Jacob Palmer played by Ryan Gosling, who teaches him how to pick up women to help him get over his crumbled marriage.

I thought this movie was fantastic. I love romantic comedies and this was probably one of the best I’ve ever seen. Crazy, Stupid, Love. had a fantastic plot line and the comedy, while inappropriate for kids under 13, was actually decent.

I especially enjoyed the extremely unexpected twist towards the end. I’m not going to give it away, but it was definitely the best part of the movie.

Of all the actors, Gosling had to be the greatest. Not only is he tremendously attractive, he counters some of the roles he has had in other movies, proving his versatility. He plays a womanizer in Crazy, Stupid, Love., while his characters in The Notebook and Blue Valentine are quite the opposite.

Overall, I would give this movie four out of five stars. The acting was fantastic and the plot was easy to follow with an unexpected twist.

This movie is an hour and 57 minutes long and is rated PG-13 for coarse humor, sexual content and language.
