On March 5, Mill Valley’s coloring club was officially founded, the first meeting being held in room a104 from 3-3:30 P.M. The club’s founder, junior Maddie Martin, provides insight into how she created the club.
“At the end of last semester, I heard another school had started a coloring club and I thought that was a genius idea. So when I returned from winter break, I talked to my seminar teacher about starting a club and got sent to the activities director,” Martin said, “After that, I had to fill out a form and get approved by the board, and then you can just start meeting.”
Sophomore Kennedy Botkin explains why she was interested in joining the club.
“Someone I know made the club and she put the flyer around school, so I thought it’d be fun to join. Also, I’ve always thought that coloring is something calming,” Botkin said. “So, after a hard day of school, I think It’s great to shut off your brain and not have to think.”
Sophomore Aiden Finnel describes his feelings about the club opening
“I think it’s great, it’s a way for people to relax and because it’s after school, it’s super convenient,” Finnel said. “I also think it helps people connect and the club has a lot of room to grow in the future.”
Martin explains the benefits she hopes students will gain from the Coloring Club.
“I hope that students get whatever they want out of it. Whether you want to come for five minutes and just talk to your friends, or you want to come for 30 minutes and color the whole time and not talk at all, I wanted a designated time to destress,” Martin said. “I know for me, I’m busy, and I don’t make time for these kinds of self-care activities, so this is a time to relax.”
Sophomore Aiden Finnel describes his favorite part of the club.
“I like that we just get to sit around and color,” Finnel said. “It’s become a place to hang out and practice a hobby, which also makes it nice, but I also like that it’s not stressful, the meetings are short and only once a week, so it’s no added work.”
Botkin recommends the club to other students
“Everyone should come to the coloring club because it’s easy and everyone can participate,” Botkin said. “You can come, sit down, talk, and color, it’s calming.”
