The Community Service Club, formerly titled JAGS, hosted a quarter drive the week of Monday, Oct. 8 in order to raise money for the Swipe Out Hunger program at Kansas State University. The program collects and packages food to donate to impoverished people.
“I thought it was a good charity to raise money for and a good cause to donate to,” senior Community Service Club member Lindsey Kimbell said.
The fundraiser incorporated the class competition hosted by the Student Leadership Team. Kimbell said it would be a good way to get more students involved in the drive.
“We thought we needed a way to motivate students,” Kimbell said. “[The quarter drive] worked really well with the class competition.”
The Community Service Club is now under the new sponsorship of technology teacher Jason Smith. Community Service Club member senior Kayla Smith said that the transition has gone smoothly.
“Mr. Smith keeps things organized and stays on top of things,” Kayla said. “He’s very open to anything we want to do.”
