Cross country teams win Kaw Valley League titles
Team also swept individual titles in each race
All four teams swept individual and team titles at the Kaw Valley League Cross Country meet on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Ken Benard Park.
Sophomore Derek Meeks placed first out of 49 boys and all seven varsity boys runners placed in the top 10. All varsity girls placed in the top 13 and sophomore Amber Akin placed first out of 49 girls.
Senior Mariah Kalma came in 11th place, and said the course was challenging.
“[The course] was different from others, but I like it. It’s harder than others, though, because I didn’t always know where to go and it had sharp turns,” Kalma said.
Sophomore Garret Fields placed ninth and is looking forward to the upcoming races.
“I am really excited for regionals and there is a pretty good chance that we will go to state and do well,” Fields said.
Fields missed running his freshman year after being on the team in middle school, and is happy to be on the team this year.
“[I wasn’t on the team last year] because I was lazy and I though it would be a lot more work. I feel really good after I finish now and I feel healthy and pretty good,” Fields said.
Senior Kat Anglemyer is co-editor in chief of the JAG yearbook. She will also serve as a writer and a photographer on the staff. In addition to yearbook, Anglemyer is a member of NHS, SLT, Student Ambassadors, band, colorguard and the bowling team. She also enjoys watching Netflix, painting, cats and cooking.
