Debate season begins strongly

The beginning of the debate season is off to a good start, according to debate teacher Jeanette Hardesty. The team has already debated in three tournaments. On Saturday, Oct. 1 the team competed in the Olathe North Invitational.

The team of freshman Jack Earlenbaugh and sophomore Alyssa Hobson had a record of 4-1. Teams that finished with a record of 3-2 were junior Lexi Riddle and senior Josh Duden, juniors Hannah Torline and Stephen McEnery and seniors Tyler Owsley and Matt Eber.

Eber thinks the team is prepared for upcoming competitions.

“The seasons going well, we’ve done a lot of research on the topic this year,” Eber said.

Hardesty sees the challenges facing them.

“We have a lot of new debaters,” Hardesty said. “Their learning the basic skills of debating.”
