Family studies students create egg babies
Sophomore Gabby Saunders enjoys caring for her “egg baby”, Alex
Students in Family Studies classes began a five-day “egg baby” project on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Students in the class had to blow the yolk out of their egg, create a carrier for the egg to “sleep” in, and treat the egg as their child. They also had to take their egg everywhere they went.
Sophomore Gabby Saunders liked that the students were encouraged to and care for their eggs like their own.
“[I enjoyed] taking pride in a child, and [my egg] is cute,” Saunders said. “I liked decorating it and naming it.”
Saunders said that the most difficult part of the project was making sure that the egg didn’t break.
“[To future students], make sure your carrier is safe and just take really good care of it,” Saunders said. “[I didn’t like] that when you crack your egg, you have to report it.”
The “egg baby” project prepared students for parenthood later in life.
“[This project] helps you learn about your future…when you’re in math or something, you may not use it when you’re older,” Saunders said. “Taking care of a child is a really big responsibility.”
