Mill Valley took on Spring Hill high school Friday, Nov. 8 at home taking a 42-6 win to claim another regional championship.
The Jags will head into their next postseason with a regular season record of 8-1. The game on Friday included stand out performances from defensive tackle Abe Schaffer on the defensive end, wide receiver Desmond Williams and quarterback Connor Bohon on the offensive. This has been a stand out season for the Jags in many ways. One of which is the lack of injured players this season and another being their explosive defense, these two things together have led Mill Valley to an incredible season.
The biggest advantage going into this postseason according to senior Zach Zaldivar is hard work and preparation.
“How hard we work and prepare watching films, ” Zaldivar said. “[We] make sure we watch films on our own, too. It’s just to focus on ourselves.”
Aquinas is ranked number one in the 5A division, coming into this game favored to win the last matchup between the Jags and Aquinas the jags took the win 35-19. The Jaguars are 7-7 against Aquinas under coach Applebee and 6-3 in the playoffs. The Jags have won the last three matchups.
Working hard in the weight room and in practice is the one of the ways the team continues to dominate the league. There are also other ways players like to prepare for games. Many players see the importance of not stressing and relaxing before a big game. Players such as senior Andy Watts tend to take time to relax and get treatment for such big games as the one coming up.
“[I] get together with my team and hang out with my boys,” Watts said.
The Jags will continue to make mental preparations for this next game away at Aquinas.
