Forensics team wins at Basehor-Linwood
Forensics members describe their experience at fourth meet
March 9, 2015
The forensics team took home the first place plaque on Saturday, March 7. At Basehor-Linwood, junior Karla Kim placed first in both Impromptu and Extemporaneous Speaking and junior Megan Feuerborn took the first in Prose. In addition, partners senior Henry Hanson and sophomore Lisa Earlenbaugh placed first in duet acting and in serious solo acting, Henry took second, while junior Brooklyn McCann took first.
Sophomore Emma Hansen, who placed third in Informative and fifth in Prose, recognized the team’s strength at the competition.
“I believe [the meet] went pretty well,” Emma said. “Our team as a whole did exceedingly well; all but a few people broke in finals. I believe that everyone competing for Mill Valley did really well.”
Although the team competed against only nine other schools, Henry believed the size of the meet was no reason to not give the same amount of effort.
“It was a smaller meet, so a lot of people would say it’s easier to break into finals,” Henry said. “It’s just as hard because you still have to give it 110 percent.”
In order to place well at this meet, the actors had to pursue extensive preparation. Henry described the work put into perfecting his performances.
“Every day in Hardesty’s class, I run my pieces and then I help get notes on other pieces,” Henry said. “I’ve come down to work during music appreciation to work on my piece with Lisa because she’s in a different forensics class. I’ve [also] come in during seminar some days… I’ve done each piece at least once a day for the last week.”
Although forensics requires hours of preparation, Emma said that winning another meet added to her confidence.
“It felt pretty good to add another plaque to our schools collection,” Emma said. “For me personally, it felt great to be able to have both my pieces qualify.”
