Christots Montessori Day School, a secluded old-fashioned building off Midland Drive, houses a 12-1 ratio of children to teachers for day school. Foundations to Early Childhood Development students got the chance to visit various day care centers on Thursday, Sept. 20 to learn about the different environments.
“The whole purpose of the class is to learn about child care centers. It is a great way to introduce themany types of pre schools that children can go to,” FACS teacher Ellee Gray said.
Her students visited the different day care centers because they are interested in going into a career field involving children.
“It was very different than a normal day care center,” junior Abby Seiperda said. The children at Christots are taught to learn things for themselves. They do not play, everything they do is work. It has a learning purpose behind it.
“We expect the children to know how to take care of themselves,” one of the teachers said. The children are learning how to speak spanish, wash their own dishes, and serve their own food.
“It was a weird experience to go to. There was a lot of things that were different than other day care centers,” junior Hope Riedel said.
