Girls basketball team beats Shawnee Mission South
Freshman guard Courtney Carlson says the team’s chemistry helped it win the game
The girls basketball team beat Shawnee Mission South High School, 36-28, on Friday, Jan. 24. The win put the team’s record at 4-6.
Freshman guard Courtney Carlson said their success came from the team’s unison.
“We used to play as individuals but we really came together and played as one,” Carlson said. “We brought intensity and we were ready to go.”
Carlson said the team had to come into the game with a positive mindset after its loss against Piper High School on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
“[SMS was] a bigger school and they thought they would just walk all over us, but we didn’t back down,” Carlson said. “I think we were in the right mental state.”
Senior post Laurel Knust said the team’s attitude helped secure the win.
“Other games we seemed to dwell on loosing two or three in a row instead of focusing on the next game and worrying about what we could do better,” Knust said. “We came out with more enthusiasm and confidence.”
