Students cheered as the girls basketball team scored their first points of the season against Bishop Ward on Friday, Dec. 5. The team won 58-30.

Senior shooting guard Whitney Hazlett contributed to the early first quarter 28-5 lead.

“The first couple of minutes were great, we had back to back points,” Hazlett said. “We were pressing them and we had points up there really fast.”

Junior post Catie Kaifes helped be a team leader by scoring 16 points in the game.

“I was pretty excited and I hope to score in the upcoming games,” Kaifes said.

At the end of the half the Jaguars lead 39-7.

“We knew that we still had to work because they had scored more points than we wanted them to at that time. We needed to be careful with our fouls and we still had stuff to get done,” Hazlett said. “We knew that they weren’t going to give up so we couldn’t either.”

According to Kaifes, the team improved their connection on the court.

“We played together. We moved the ball around really well. I think it made us bond,” Kaifes said.

The Jaguars will play their next game against Gardner-Edgerton Tuesday, Dec. 9.
