Two girls golfers place at state competition
Freshman Meg Green and senior Bailee Flaming both place on Monday, Oct. 21
Girls golfers freshman Meg Green and senior Bailee Flaming took 10th and 20th, respectively, out of 91 individuals at state on Monday, Oct. 21.
Though the records showed otherwise, Green had originally tied for eighth place with five other golfers. Since the state rules do not allow ties, Green and the other golfers had to fight for their place in play-offs, meaning the girls played extra holes and the officials decided placement after they finished. Out of the five girls, Green took third, leaving her with 10th place in the overall competition.
“State was very exciting even though I was a little nervous,” Green said. “There were a lot of girls there and they were all pretty competitive, but it was a really good experience.”
Even with the high level of competition, Flaming said she played her best at state.
“I wasn’t stressed or worried about [state], so that helped,” Flaming said. “[Before state], I was kind of in a slump and I couldn’t fix my swing, but I continued practicing and I finally peaked again at state.”
Overall, Green enjoyed her success throughout her first season.
“I like all the work I put into [golf] so I get something good out of it,” Green said. “Everything about [golf] is fun.”
