Girls softball defeats Bishop Ward in home opener
The girls softball team is victorious against Bishop Ward 17-0, 15-0
In its first game, the girls softball team defeated Bishop Ward 17-0, 15-0 on Thursday, April 3.
The team’s initial first game against Bonner Springs, scheduled to be played on Thursday, March 27, had been cancelled and rescheduled due to rain. Junior catcher Lacie Myers said finally getting to play in their second game brought her excitement.
“It felt very good [to play again],” Myers said. “I really missed it, so it was just good to be on the dirt again.”
Although the team clenched the win against Bishop Ward without difficulty, the team’s hitting pleasantly surprised Myers.
“I was pretty impressed with how our team hit, and how well the team fielded when the ball was actually hit our way,” Myers said.
Through the course of the season, Myers expects the team to face some challenges playing Piper and Blue Valley schools.
“I would say [our goals are] to win League, and win Regionals and see where that takes us at state. We play a couple of Blue Valley teams, and historically theyve been pretty tough,” Myers said. “We have a Blue Valley team in our regional that we could potentially play.”
The team will face off in a double header against Basehor-Linwood away at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10.
