The girls swim team competed in their meet Thursday, April 28. The dual meet was held at Blue Valley Northwest High School with multiple swimmers setting new personal records.

Freshman Halle Nelson, who competed in the 200 individual medley, 500 meter freestyle and 400 freestyle relay was one of the swimmers who lowered their times.

“I shaved off four seconds on my 200 IM time and ten seconds off my 500-free time, which was a huge accomplishment for me,” Nelson said.

Junior Eva Garcia, who competed in the 200 meter freestyle, 100 meter fly__ 4×50 freestyle relay and 4×100 freestyle relay, shares that the team enjoyed their meet despite competing against a school with a good record.

“The team did great,” Garcia said, “even though we were competing against a really good school, we all had fun.”

This meet was one of multiple that the team has competed in this week. The swimmers placed first at the Blue Valley Southwest dual meet last Tuesday, April 19 and the Timberwolf Invite Saturday, April 23. Additionally, the team placed second at the Blue Valley North Triangular on Tuesday, April 2.

Looking forward, Nelson said that she is aiming to make more personal records.

“I am looking forward to trying to beat some of my times in events that I swam in the regular season, and beating them in the postseason meets,” Nelson said.

Postseason events for the team begin next week with the JV Sunflower meet on Tuesday, May 3 and the Varsity Sunflower meet on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6.
