Girls swim places second at last regular season meet
Girls swim team looks forward to league and state after placing second at Turner Invitational
The girls swim team placed second of five teams at the Turner Invitational on Thursday, May 1.
Sophomore captain Sherry McLeod is proud of how the team performed at this meet and in the season overall.
“Everyone did a great job and we can only get better,” McLeod said. “It’s been a great year. I’m pretty happy with how the team has done and how I’ve done individually.”
Junior Olivia Hafer said that the location of the meet played a role in the team’s success.
“They have an eight-lane pool at Turner instead of six so the meets go quicker, and the experience is overall more competitive,” Hafer said. “When the atmosphere is more competitive it’s more motivating for me and it gets the adrenaline going; it helps me swim faster.”
This meet was the last regular season meet, with league on Wednesday, May 14 and state on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24.
“[Turner] was our last meet where the whole team was together which was sad,” McLeod said.
Hafer is looking forward to competing at league.
“I am very hopeful that we will do really well at league and possibly have a few more state qualifiers,” Hafer said. “[Our number of state qualifiers] is impressive since this is only our second year of having a swim team.”
This is Katherine's third year on staff, and she is excited to work on the newspaper with a great staff this year. She is also involved in band, quiz bowl and literary magazine. When she is not in the journalism room or practicing an instrument, she is probably daydreaming about being in Disney World.
