Girls swim team places second at Invitational
At the Olathe South Invitational, swimmers dropped time and qualified for state
The girls swim team placed second at the Olathe South Invitational on Wednesday, May 23. During the meet sophomore Sherry McLeod qualified for state in her 100 butterfly with a time of 1.10.11.
“It felt awesome because I dropped two seconds and I didn’t think I would be able to do it but my hard work paid off,” McLeod said. “I had a couple of friends that wanted to jump into the pool with me because they were so happy.”
Since only three teams competed, the meet went finished quickly.
“You get really tired after you start swimming but you have to stay focused because you have other races,” sophomore Claudia Meredith said.
According to Meredith, the relays were the most exciting part.
“My favorite part is the relays because when you [compete] relays you work together and get to cheer on everyone,” Meredith said.
The team felt accomplished after the meet, sophomore Lilly Lutz said.
“It’s a confidence booster [placing second] as a team,” Lutz said. “Even though we are a new team we can still bring the best we have.”
