The girl’s track team placed second and the boys placed sixth while the boy’s placed sixth at the Shawnee Mission West Invitational on Friday, April 12, going head to head with many 6A schools.
“The compeition was our hardest yet this year,” senior McKenzie Schmitt said. “We got to look at some of the fastest people in the state.”
Not only did the team compete against bigger schools, they also had minimal practice time. The invitational was their fourth meet in two weeks.
“For the bad conditions we’ve had, our team just works hard and it shows,” junior Emily Leonard said.
The boys finished with 70 points and the girls with 133 points, only eight and a half points behind Shawnee Mission East High School.
“I don’t believe it, It’s really cool actually,” Leonard said. “It makes me proud of my team.”
