Students watch student-made horror film “The Playmate” during the Halloween Film Fest on Thursday, Oct. 31.

The annual Halloween Film Fest was held  in the theater on Thursday, Oct. 31.

The event featured five student-made films created in Broadcast teacher Cindy Swartz’s Video Productions class. Students who attended the event voted between the films to decide the winner, which was “The Playmate” by seniors Sankie Smith and Madison Plouvier and juniors Nathan Fullerton, Jalen McMiller and Jordan Matlock.

McMiller wrote, directed and filmed The Playmate, which he wrote over the summer.

“I wrote it over the summer because I just like to randomly write films sometimes,” McMiller said. “I was watching Criminal Minds and this guy kidnapped a girl and one of the shots they had was really cool, so I incorporated that into my storyboard and writing my script.”

McMiller enjoyed getting to create the film with his team.

“It was really fun,” McMiller said. “It was a great group of people, a lot of input from every side.”
