Trying to navigate the hallways can be a real pain sometimes. Here are some hallways etiquette basics that can help traffic flow a little bit more smoothly:

DO: stay to the right. Hallway traffic should flow like highway traffic. If you’re on the left, you’ll be running into people and fighting to get to class. Don’t expect people to move if you’re on the wrong side of the hallway. Slower moving traffic should stay on the far right side of the hallway so students that are walking faster can go around.

DO: pay attention to people around you. If you stop short realizing that you forgot your Physics book in your locker, you might run into the person walking behind you. Make sure you are aware of the people around you so you don’t spill someone’s papers or cause a collision.

DO: be polite. If you accidentally step on the back of someone’s shoe on the stairs, apologize. If you’re trying to get past a cluster of people standing in the hallway, say excuse me.

DON’T: group in the middle of the walkway. Do the student body a favor and please don’t make a mass in the hallway if you’re standing and talking.

DON’T: slow down because you’re texting. If you can’t keep pace with hallway traffic and text, wait until you get to class to send your message. If it just can’t wait, at least stay to the very far right and walk against the wall so people can go around you.
