Homemade gifts are more heartfelt than store bought gifts

James Ball, JagWire reporter

Ever since I was young, I enjoyed making crafts such as origami, paper snowflakes and sketches. As I’ve grown older, I have continued to enjoy making crafts in different ways for different reasons. I enjoy using my craftsmanship to create memorable objects and presents that I believe to be far superior than any normal store-bought gift.

Many times, it can be a huge struggle to get gifts for your friends and family. I can go shopping for hours just to find that perfect gift, and I can still walk out empty-handed. For me, this struggle is infuriating. However, in recent years, I’ve turned to using my own hands to make gifts.

Seeing a present for someone special come together can truly be magical. In my opinion, it’s much better than resorting to just a gift card or a store-bought present because your hard work that’s gone into that gift adds value to it.

When all of your hard work is done, whether that be sanding a block of wood for thirteen hours to make it into a heart, or writing a heartfelt note to someone you care about, you finally see the final product. For me, the best part is seeing the reaction of the person you’re giving it to. To see someone light up with happiness because of you is just awesome.

In short, homemade gifts can be a phenomenal way to show how you care. It can truly be magical how much some hard work and effort can make a beautiful gift and the impact it can have on a person.
