In the current: ‘Thank you’ for bragging, Trump

President-elect Donald Trump begins “Thank you” tour, designed to unite political parties after election

President-elect Donald Trump began his “Thank You” tour Thursday, Dec. 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a tour designed to travel through the country to thank voters and supporters for his presidency win.

Last night was the first time Trump has given a large speech to a group since election night; he’d previously been buying his time in Trump Tower, nominating members for his Cabinet. This speech was no different than others he gave on his campaign trail. The same overzealous, over-charged rhetoric was sanctioned yet again, reminding America what they’ve gotten themselves into.

According to Trump, “The bottom line is that [he won],” as he exclaimed last night in his speech. In true Trump style, a celebratory tour was deemed necessary to boast his victory. In my opinion, the tour is unnecessary. The country understands that Trump has won the election, and there is little more to do than to wait for his inauguration.

While the tour was designed in order to stress national unity after the fractured election, I have a feeling it just may do the opposite. Even last night, protesters plagued Trump’s rally, chanting “I will not stand for you.” I doubt these protesters will be exclusive to Ohio, and will likely follow Trump through his tour as surely as his supporters will.

So, while admirable, the very idea of the tour just doesn’t sit right with me. I think the tour has the distinct ability to do more harm than good and further divide the political fractures of the country rather than unite them.
