JagPRIDE visits elementary school for Red Ribbon Week
JagPride members visited recess at Horizon Elementary School to draw positive chalk messages with the students.
JagPRIDE members kicked off Red Ribbon Week by visiting the future generation of Mill Valley students at Horizon Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
“I think it’s important to help kids learn about drug awareness,” junior Lindsay Stockham said. “This will be a big part of what they confront later on so learning about it now is positive.”
The members talked to the kids during recess and drew uplifting chalk messages on the pavement.
“It is fun seeing the kids use their imagination,” Stockham said. “That’s a big part of being a kid and giving them a lesson in the process makes it better.”
The elementary students drew pictures to promote anti-bullying, anti-drugs, and self confidence.
“I want to let people know that drugs are bad and maybe little kids will know that drugs are bad,” fifth grader Meg Carey said.
The kids understood the depth of what jagPRIDE was teaching them.
“Drugs can kill you and are bad,” fifth grader Kylee Collins said. “Being drug free means being healthy.”
