The boys baseball team suffered its first loss of the season in the first game of the double header against Turner, 2-5, on Thursday, April 30. In the second game, the team came back and defeated the Golden Bears, 15-6, making its overall record 13-1.

Senior second baseman Matt Scanlon attributed the loss to poor hitting.

“[We need to work on] getting hits when runners are in scoring position,” Scanlon said. “[But] the strongest points in both games was our pitching.”

Despite the loss in the first game, senior catcher Tyler Garrison said it sparked determination in the team to win the next game.

“We had better approaches at the plate [in the second game] and we saw a different pitcher,” Garrison said. “As a team we were more pissed off, so it motivated us.”

Going into the end of league play, the team wasn’t phased by its first loss, according to Garrison.

“[The loss] doesn’t really affect us at all. We use it like every other game and learn from our mistakes,” Garrison said. “It didn’t really move us down in our region.”

The Jaguars will play the Bishop Ward Cyclones at home on Tuesday, May 5 at 4 p.m.
