Jaguars defeat the Schlagle High School Stallions, 48-0, to move to 7-0
Mill Valley football improves to 8-0 with a win over Schlagle High School, Friday Oct. 18.
Senior night was a 48-0 win for the Jaguars over the Schlagle High School Stallions, improving their record to 7-0 on Friday, Oct. 18.
Defensive lineman Ryan Smith believes that the team needs to use these games to prepare for future games.
“We need to be getting ready for week ten, [but] I think it was a great game. We performed well, overall it was a good game,” Smith said.
No time was wasted by the Jaguars, scoring on their first possesion with an eight-yard run by senior wide receiver Nick Wilson. The extra point by senior Connor Mills was blocked, making the score 6-0 with 8:36 left in the first quarter.
On Schlagle’s next possession, the Jaguars recovered a fumble, which brought them to first and ten at the Stallion 24-yard line. A 23-yard pass by junior quarterback Ty Bruce, caught by sophomore wide receiver Christian Jegen was good for a touchdown. The two point conversion attempt was no good, making the score 12-0 with 6:39 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Jaguars came up with another turnover. An interception by senior linebacker TJ Phillips, was followed by a 20-yard run by Bruce for a touchdown. The two-point conversion run by junior Tyler Garrison made the score 20-0 with 5:53 remaining in the first half.
The Jaguar offense showed no sign of slowing down on their next possession. After three consecutive first downs by the Jaguars, they found the end zone again, with a 30-yard pass by Bruce to Jegen, good for a touchdown. The two-point conversion run by senior Micah Clarke was good, putting the score at 28-0 with 1:11 to go in the first half.
A penalty on the two-point conversion led to a 15-yard penalty against the Stallions, giving the Jagaurs the kickoff at the Stallion 35-yard line. Mill Valley followed with an onside kick which was successfully recovered by the Jaguars. A pass from Bruce was caught by senior wide receiver Dylan Cole in the end zone for another Jaguar touchdown. The extra point by Mills was missed, putting the score at 34-0 with 46 seconds remaining in the half
The first half scoring explosion wasn’t finished yet. After the Jaguar kickoff, a loose ball on the field was recovered by sophomore linebacker Grant Warford. A one-yard pass from Bruce was caught by Jegen after slipping out of the hands of a Schlagle player to score a touchdown. The extra point attempt by Mills was good, making the score 41-0 to end the first half.
The second half started with a kick off by the Jaguars. On the second play of the half, senior defensive back TJ Midiros intercepted the ball at the Schlagle 6-yard line. A four-yard carry by Wilson was followed by a two-yard carry for a final Jaguar touchdown. The extra point by Mills was good, putting the score at 48-0 with 9:28 left in the third quarter.
At this point, the Jaguar defense took over, securing the shutout for the night.
Mill Valley will play at Washington against the Washington High School Wildcats this Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
