Jaguars defeat Turner High School, 48-7
Sophomore quarterback Logan Koch scores three touchdowns in victory
The football team brought their record to 2-0 with a 48-7 win over Turner High School on Friday, Sept. 13.
Within a minute of the game, sophomore quarterback Logan Koch ran 75 yards for a touchdown. Senior kicker Connor Mills’ extra point was good, putting the Jaguars ahead 7-0 with 11:15 left in the first quarter.
Minutes later, after Turner making it to the 11-yard line from three continuous first downs, Turner ran 11 yards to score their first and only touchdown of the game. The Bears’ touchdown was followed by an extra point making the score 7-7 with 9:52 left in the first quarter.
The momentum of the game returned to the Jaguars after multiple carries by Koch, which lead to a touchdown by junior wide receiver Isaiah Young. The Jaguars took back the lead, 14-7 after an extra point by Mills with 5:25 left in the first quarter.
After the kick-off return by Turner at their own 10-yard line followed by small-yard gains, senior linebacker Henry Midyett went on to intercept the ball with a 28 yard run for a touchdown. The extra point by Mills was good, giving the Jaguars a lead of 21-7, 4:11 left in the first quarter.
The second quarter began with a 64-yard pass reception from Koch, caught by sophomore wide receiver Cole Morris. Mills brought the score to 28-7 after making the extra point with 10:10 to go in the first half.
Mills finished off the first half with a 31-yard field goal, which increased the Jaguar’s lead to 31-7.
After the second half kickoff by Mill Valley, and a 30-yard run by the Bears, sophomore defensive lineman Anthony Brown had a fumble recovery at the Bears 36-yard line, which lead to small yard gains by Young, and a 3-yard carry for a touchdown by Koch. Mill’s extra point was good, making the score 38-7, with 9:31 left in the third quarter.
The third quarter continued with Turner’s possession of the ball. After multiple small yard gains, and an incomplete pass by the Bears, they were forced to punt the ball. The Jaguars received the ball at the 16-yard line. Many carries by Young, lead to a 38-yard run by Koch for a touchdown. When the extra point was good, the score was 45-7, Jaguars, with 5:08 left in the third quarter.
With 3:18 left in the game, Mills kicked a 40 yard field goal making the score 48-7.
The game ended with a punt by Turner, providing the Mill Valley Jaguars with another win.
The Jaguars’ next game will be at Basehor-Linwood this Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
