The smell of pancakes flooded the soccer field Thursday, Sept. 26. Jaguar Leadership Corps, a leadership club, was behind the field welcoming students and parents with unlimited access to pancakes for one dollar.
The idea came from Thursday being National Pancake Day. according to JLC member senior Hank Danielson, there was another reason behind the decision to sell pancakes
“We wanted to have a way to give back to the community a little bit more and we decided a pancake feed would do that. People get hungry during games,” Danielson said.
The pancake line was packed until eight o’clock when the line was shut down so JLC could begin setting up for their halftime show of the soccer game. The halftime show consisted of groups of two from every grade competing to win a Flapjacks gift card and a scarf. The competition consists of one person being blindfolded while the other guides them by voice through hoops, dribbling a soccer ball and finally kicking the ball into the goal.
Sophomore Charles Bullard, one of the winners of the halftime show, goes to about half of the soccer games a year and went to Thursday’s game specifically for the pancakes and the halftime show.
“I’ve never been in [a halftime show] before which is why I thought it was a lot of fun,” Bullard said.
Throughout the night, students sat on the edge of the field or in the student section watching the game with their pancakes and enjoying the halftime show. Senior Josie Benson thought the activities were a great way to support the boys soccer team.
“Usually there’s not a lot of people [who] come [to the games]. This definitely brought a lot of more people and I think it’s been better for the soccer boys too so they should definitely do this again,” Benson said.
