Playing the league rival, Bonner Springs High School, the JV baseball team knew they had a leg up. The teams met in a double-header on Friday, April 19.
“We gave them respect,” junior catcher Alex Rounds said. “But we were definitely ready to play.”
The Jaguars won both of the games, including a shutout 16-0 first game.
“We had to get warmed up a little bit,” Rounds said. “But I think we played really well.”
In a game with little competition, Rounds said it allowed the team to have more fun.
“The game was a lot of fun,” Rounds said. “But the best part was when [freshman] Nick Vitale stole second base. [It was funny] because he’s really slow.”
Although Rounds knows that the team sometimes makes fun of each other, he has seen them bond even at the beginning of the season.
“We’ve all grown closer,” Rounds said. “Before the season we didn’t really know each other but now we’re best buds.”
