Lil B the Based God, aka Brandon McCartney, is probably the weirdest rapper of our generation. Most of his songs consist of off-time rambling about his own “based” philosophy, and whenever he does rap, it comes off just as rambling as his speeches. And the dude has a lot of songs. He claims to has made over 155 MySpace pages filled with music, and puts out at least one mixtape a month, usually with 20+ songs on them (March’s God’s Father mixtape had 32 songs, and he announced another mixtape just days after releasing that one.) The man has stood as an enigma in the rap world, and as time passes he only seems to get weirder.
Apparently the administration at New York University college felt their students could learn from the Based One, as they invited him to lecture for an hour and a half on Wednesday, April 11. For nearly two hours, he talked about love, politics and his music, all completely script-less. Any time a genius/crazy person on the level of Lil B is given a forum to rant and express his feelings, the results are glorious, this lecture being no different. This year was Calvin Terrell, could MVHS bring Lil B for a lecture next year? Only Based God knows.
